We need to top up our water-soluble vitamins, such as vitamins B and C every day. These vitamins can be gained from foods such as meat, grains, pulses, fruits and vegetables, the majority of us don’t always take enough of these on a daily basis.

Conditions that alter general wellbeing and need for nutrients:

  • Unbalanced diet
  • Stress
  • Smoking
  • Excessive alcohol or nicotine
  • Sleep deprivation
  • Chronic illnesses such as chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, immunity problems, respiratory problems

The body needs vitamin C to recover from:

  • Inflammation,
  • Thrombosis and
  • Ischaemic damage

Vitamin C plays a profound role in wound healing, the normal functioning of our body tissues as well as our immunity. Illness creates the need for more nutrients.

Often the amount of nutrients absorbed through the gut is less than ideal at 20-30% or less if you have digestive issues that lead to malabsorption.

Intravenous (IV) Infusions (commonly known as an “IV drip”) deliver the nutrients direct to your tissues via your vein. This is combined with fluids (for hydration).

Benefits:

  • Rehydrate
  • Iron deficiency – not responding to oral therapy
  • Energy boost
  • Immunity boost
  • Improved recovery
  • Reduced migraines
  • Lessened nausea and vomiting
  • Help with chronic or acute muscle spasms

IV as an adjuvant or “add on” therapy

IV Infusions are a useful treatment option where recovery has been slow or difficult to obtain. Useful for treating nutrient imbalances by maximizing cellular uptake. A convenient way to enhance energy levels, improve well-being, treat specific medical conditions, or maintain optimal health.

Intravenous Chelation Therapy

Intravenous Chelation Therapy is considered an “alternative medicine” with the purpose of eliminating toxins and “heavy metals” from the body.

Chela – is derived from the Greek language. It means a “claw”.

Chelation therapy refers to the use of an agent that “binds” to a substance with a “claw like” action. In this context it is commonly used for heavy metal detoxification as IV EDTA or IV DMPS binds irreversibly to its respective heavy metal(s).

Vitamin C, certain antioxidants (such as glutathione), trace elements, and substances such as IV DMPS or IV EDTA have been used as chelating agents.

Heavy Metal Toxicity

The gold standard for detecting heavy metal toxicity is to infuse IV DMPS (2,3-Dimercapto-1-propanesulfonic acid) and normal saline through an IV Infusion or “IV drip”. A sample of urine collected after this is sent to a lab and the heavy metals are quantified. IV DMPS tends to push most heavy metals out of our system, as it has a high affinity for Mercury (Hg) and other heavy metals.

Intravenous Chelation Therapy involves administering a chemical solution known as EDTA (ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid) or DMPS directly into the body though an IV Infusion into the bloodstream so it can bind with excess metals or in the case of EDTA which indirectly removes calcium from arteries. Once IV EDTA or IV DMPS binds with these metals in the body, it is then eliminated through the liver and the gut.

How do heavy metals build up?

It is surprising how someone can accumulate heavy metals. We are exposed to a variety of toxins in our day to day lives. We can be exposed to mercury from eating tuna or king fish daily, eating foods produced in foreign countries, especially China that are not certified organic, or living in a highly populated suburb where lead has accumulated from the previous use of leaded fuels. It is possible you may have been exposed to a toxic load of heavy metals to a certain degree.

EDTA has been used to treat diseased arteries.

EDTA was initially used to treat lead toxicity, one of the side effects noted was a “drop” in blood pressure. IV EDTA was used as a way to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) until pharmaceutical agents or medications were discovered and found to be effective.

Hence its use for its ability to remodel arterial wall tone.
